These current tableaus are a mix of underglaze painting, poetry and mosaic work. I have been working on my watercolor skills, a media I find challenging and engaging. The underglazes work in many ways like watercolors but allow for the painting ground to be ceramic. Thus, another of my passions connected: mosaic. I am exploring the play between painted imagery, poetry and fragmented hand-made mosaic pieces. I like the story each piece tells the viewer. The broken pieces create a playful frame leading the eye into the painted ground that holds more information and interest. These pieces have personal meaning for me but my hope is that the messages and images can connect with the viewer.
